IND vs NZ: Rohit-Shubman set new world record, broke Sehwag-Gambhir's 14-year-old record
Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played century innings against New Zealand. On the basis of their fast batting, this Indian pair made a new world record. Both of them broke the 14-year-old record of the pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.
In the third ODI of the series against New Zealand, the opening pair of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted furiously.
Both these stalwarts, batting in excellent rhythm, crossed the threshold in ODIs against the Kiwis, which was unbroken for almost a decade and a half. Hitman and Gill broke the world record made by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in 2009 and set a new record in ODI cricket.
Captain Rohit Sharma's three-year-long wait for an ODI century at Indore's Holkar Stadium not only ended, it also brought a new gift for Indian cricket.
He created a new history by breaking his own old record. Rohit and Gill together shared a 212-run partnership in this match. This is the highest opening partnership by any opening pair against New Zealand.
Earlier, the record of the biggest opening partnership against the Kiwis in ODIs was in the name of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhiri. The opening pair of Viru and Gauti shared an unbeaten 201-run partnership in an ODI in Hamilton in 2009.
However, before these two, in 2006, the pair of Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga also shared a 201-run partnership against New Zealand in Napier.
This record was achieved after three years by the pair of Sehwag and Gambhir by remaining unbeaten despite being on equal score. The best part is that after 14 years only an Indian pair came forward to break this record.
Indian opening pair's partnership against New Zealand in Indore ended with the wicket of Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain got out after scoring 101 runs in 85 balls.
Hitman also hit 6 tremendous sixes in this innings along with 9 fours. After Rohit's dismissal, Gill also returned to the pavilion soon. This young opener scored 112 runs in 78 balls. Batting in excellent rhythm, he also hit five sixes with 13 fours.
